I know, we love to give our dogs a treat. But Chocolate is not for dogs…
Can you believe that!!! Chocolate is one of those toxic treats we love to give our dog!
Chocolate is toxic because it contains a chemical called theobromine, as well as caffeine. Theobromine is the predominant toxin in chocolate and is very similar to caffeine.
Symptoms of dog chocolate poisoning include vomiting (which may include blood), diarrhoea, restlessness and hyperactivity, rapid breathing, muscle tension, incoordination, increased heart rate and seizures.
The effect and signs of chocolate poisoning in dogs depend on the amount eaten and the size of the breed.
Chocolate is poisonous to dogs mostly because of its theobromine content, which dogs are unable to metabolise effectively.
If your dog eats chocolate, you should monitor them closely. Seek veterinary attention if they show any symptoms, or if they are very young, pregnant or have other health concerns.
We have to look after our babies don’t we?? Not to scare you, but, just so you know, because it is important. Here is a long list of other toxins…
